Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The River Oaks Mustangs, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were beaten by Calhoun Academy 76-40 on Friday. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Despite the loss, River Oaks still got an impressive performance from Jake Stanley, who threw for 276 yards and five touchdowns on only no passes.
Calhoun Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Coley Denton, who rushed for 173 yards and four touchdowns on only seven carries. Denton was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 63 yards. Another player making a difference was Easton Dishman, who rushed for 125 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries.
River Oaks has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Calhoun Academy, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
River Oaks does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Calhoun Academy will look to defend their home field on Friday against Lee Academy at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Lee Academy is ranked eighth in Arkansas, while Calhoun Academy is ranked sixth in Mississippi).
