Baseball Game Preview: Southview Cougars vs. Clay Eagles

For the second straight game, Southview will face off against Clay. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Southview fell victim to Clay and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Cougars' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

For Clay's part, Bryce Besgrove was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Besgrove has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Landon Echelberry was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Alex Goetz, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Clay has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Southview, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7.
