BENICIA, Calif. -
Benicia (Calif.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 20-6 win over
Vanden (Fairfield, Calif.).
The Panthers put up 13 points in the opening frame. Benicia scored on a
Travis Lawrence touchdown run and a touchdown run by
Jared Clemons.
After taking the lead on a Lawrence touchdown run in the first quarter, BHS led 20-0 at the half.
Clayton Reza stood out for the Panthers in the win. The senior ran for one touchdown.
The Vikings'
Jadon Brisendine played well. The sophomore quarterback threw one touchdown. He has now scored two touchdowns on the season.
Vanden's lone touchdown came on a 24-yard pass from Brisendine to
Ren Littlepage in the fourth quarter.
Benicia had given up an average of 17.9 points prior to the contest. The six points that VHS ended with were well below its average of 25.4 coming into the game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 54-44 win for BHS.
The defeat comes as a step back for Vanden, which notched a 26-16 victory over Vallejo in its previous outing.
Benicia (7-2) goes up against American Canyon in a Solano County game matchup next week, while Vanden (3-6) locks horns with Fairfield also in a Solano County game.
