The Fruita Monument Wildcats stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They blew past Durango 47-16 on the road. Winning may never get old, but Fruita Monument sure is getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Fruita Monument found their leader in underclassman Sophie Emerson, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and four steals. It was the first time this season that Emerson pulled down eight or more rebounds. Mckenzie Mason was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Durango struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Fruita Monument is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. As for Durango, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fruita Monument will take on the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Grand Junction is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak. As for Durango, they will head out on the road to take on the Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Palisade is ranked 94th, while the Demons are ranked 104th).
