On Friday, Monroe really took it to Spalding for the full four quarters, racking up a 69-37 win on the road. With that win, Monroe brought their scoring average up to 54 points per game.
Monroe found their leader in underclassman Kie'Aundria Acree, who shot 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 35 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Acree has scored at least 25% of Monroe's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Mckinzy, who scored 21 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Spalding's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cedrianna Evans, who scored 10 points. Another player making a difference was Jala Morgan, who scored 8 points.
Monroe now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Spalding, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.
Monroe is on the road again on Saturday and play against Athens Christian at 5:30 p.m. on November 25th. Athens Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Spalding, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Upson-Lee at 6:00 p.m.
