Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Evansville Reitz

Evansville Reitz had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Loogootee on Saturday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 10-2 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Panthers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Ella Morton made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sadey Jones, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Emery Cook also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Evansville Reitz kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Loogootee only managed three hits.

The win was the third in a row for Evansville Reitz, bringing their record up to 8-10. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Loogootee, they dropped their record down to 3-12 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Evansville Reitz didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 9-0 win against Evansville Central on the 12th. As for Loogootee, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 4-1 loss against Evansville North on the 10th.
