Redwood is a perfect 3-0 against Napa since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Redwood Giants will face off against the Napa Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. Redwood will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Redwood gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victor by an 11-2 margin over San Rafael. The result was nothing new for the Giants, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.
Stella Belluomini was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). Belluomini was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That double was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adriella Marcus, who scored a run while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kait Christensen, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double.
Redwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .425. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Napa not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 19, 2024. They blew past Winters 10-2. The high-scoring effort was just what the Grizzlies needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Like Redwood, Napa also got a great game from a two-way player: Priscilla Morgado Rodriguez. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Morgado Rodriguez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Lauren Nicklas was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Izzi Chae was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.
Redwood has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. With the victory, Napa broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-4.
Redwood came out on top in a nail-biter against Napa in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Redwood since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
