Elizabeth and Sierra are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Elizabeth Cardinals will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Sierra Stallions at 7:00 p.m. The timing isn't great for Elizabeth: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Sierra has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.
Last Friday, Elizabeth came up short against The Classical Academy and fell 61-52. While losing is never fun, Elizabeth can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 266th, while The Classical Academy is ranked 129th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Cooper Connelley, who scored 13 points along with four steals. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Dunn, who scored 15 points.
Even though they lost, Elizabeth were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. This was only their 12th loss (out of 15 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Sierra had to settle for a 56-54 defeat against Sand Creek on Tuesday.
Elizabeth's loss dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Sierra, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.
Things could have been worse for Elizabeth, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 78-62 loss to Sierra when the teams last played back in January.
