Two dominant guards in Lauren Guyer and Jenecia Swindell are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Maclay Marauders will take on the Pensacola Catholic Crusaders at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Florida (Maclay is ranked 417th, while the Crusaders are ranked 420th).
Last Thursday, Maclay was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 35-29 to the Buccaneers. Maclay has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Guyer put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 11 points. Journey Kramer was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Meanwhile, Pensacola Catholic didn't have too much breathing room in their match against the Lions on Friday, but they still walked away with a 53-47 win.
Pensacola Catholic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sophie Burns out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. Burns is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Swindell, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Maclay has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-10 record this season. As for Pensacola Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 9-15.
Maclay skirted past the Crusaders 58-56 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Does Maclay have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Crusaders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
