Denton is on an eight-game streak of home losses, Richland a five-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Denton Broncos will take on the Richland Royals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Tuesday, Denton came up short against Argyle and fell 55-46. While losing is never fun, Denton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 451st, while Argyle is ranked 38th).
Despite the loss, Denton saw an underclassman step up: Ethan Sheats scored 18 points. That was a full 39.1% of Denton's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Thomas, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Richland pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. The game between them and Grapevine wasn't particularly close, with Richland falling 71-57.
Denton has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-22 record this season. As for Richland, their loss dropped their record down to 4-23.
Everything went Denton's way against Richland when the teams last played back in January as Denton made off with a 63-38 victory. Will Denton repeat their success, or does Richland have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
