North Pocono is 2-8 against Abington Heights since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Trojans will head out to square off against the Comets at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
North Pocono had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Scranton on Monday. The Trojans blew past the Knights 16-4. The game marked the Trojans' most dominant victory of the season.
Anna Clementoni and Areilla Bell made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Clementoni struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Bell tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Clementoni earned one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases, while Bell went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Clementoni a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ellie Ambrosecchia and Avarie Roscioli did most of the damage at the plate: Ambrosecchia went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Roscioli went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Ambrosecchia has posted since back in March. Adysen Iyoob was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
North Pocono kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Freedom typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Abington Heights proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by a 14-7 margin over the Patriots. The Comets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Riley McColligan was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Eva Kane, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
North Pocono pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Abington Heights, their record now sits at 6-1-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. North Pocono hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Abington Heights struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
North Pocono came up short against Abington Heights in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 9-6. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
