The Liguori Academy Falcons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Freire Charter on the road and fell 73-43. Liguori Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-16.
Despite the defeat, Liguori Academy saw an underclassman step up: Rydee Miller scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Miller has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Naiem Scott-Allen, who scored 11 points.
Freire Charter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ibrahim Mahmoud led the charge by scoring 16 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Esa Moore, who scored 15 points.
Liguori Academy has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Freire Charter, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Liguori Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Girard College at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Freire Charter won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Belmont Charter at 3:15 p.m. on January 16th. Belmont Charter will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
