The Staples Wreckers waltzed into  Friday's  contest with six straight wins  but they left with seven. They enjoyed a cozy  35-18 win over Trumbull. Given Staples' advantage  in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings  (they are ranked eighth, while Trumbull is ranked 50th), the result  wasn't entirely unexpected.
 It was another big night for  Caleb Smith, who rushed for 48 yards and two touchdowns.
 When it comes to explaining why Trumbull lost, one person who can't be blamed is  Rowan Johnston. Despite the final result, he rushed for 257 yards and three touchdowns. Johnston hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for seven straight games.
 Staples' victory was  their third straight at home, which  pushed their record up to 8-1. As for Trumbull, they are  on a three-game losing streak  that has dropped them down to 4-5.
 Both  teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Staples will take on St. Joseph at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. As for Trumbull, they will look to defend their home field  on Friday against Westhill at 7:00  p.m. Westhill is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
