Grants hasn't had much luck against Belen recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Pirates will host the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Thursday, Grants made easy work of Highland and carried off a 20-1 victory.
Malory Largo made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Largo was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aaliyah Barela, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in March. Delilah Martinez was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Grants always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. They are 10-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Belen made sure to put some runs up on the board against Highland on Tuesday. The Eagles blew past the Hornets 21-4.
Like Grants, Belen also got a great game from a two-way player: Paesen Lucero. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Lucero was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Honey Mirabal was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Peyten Lucero, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
Grants' win bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Belen, the victory got them back to even at 12-12.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Grants has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .566. However, it's not like Belen struggles in that department as they've averaged .520. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
