Two dominant backs in Jude Dunavin and Ryan Estrada are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Amarillo Sandies will challenge the El Dorado Aztecs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Amarillo is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Tascosa: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Sandies blew the Rebels out of the water with a 63-21 final score. With the Sandies ahead 34-7 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Amarillo had a senior duo take command as Jett Lopez threw for 368 yards and seven TDs while picking up 14.7 yards per attempt and Austin Sluder picked up 184 receiving yards and five touchdowns. The Sandies are undefeated when Lopez posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise.
Meanwhile, El Dorado waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They claimed a resounding 59-21 win over the Matadors. Given the Aztecs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 78th, while the Matadors are ranked 638th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
El Dorado's win came from a few key players Amarillo will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brycen Booth, who threw for 127 yards and a pair of TDs. A healthy portion of that aerial production (82 yards to be exact) went to Jadarius Sanders, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
El Dorado was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 305 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Parkland only rushed for 128.
One reason for the win was El Dorado's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Korvel Taylor was especially locked on to Parkland's QB and sacked him twice. Taylor has been hot recently, having also posted eight or more total tackles the last three times he's played. Another thorn in Parkland's side was Matthew Pinto, who made 13 total tackles and defended three passes.
El Dorado's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Amarillo, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Amarillo has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 186.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like El Dorado struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 350.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Amarillo against El Dorado in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 45-14 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Aztecs' Estrada, who rushed for 161 yards and one score. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Sandies still be able to contain Estrada? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
