Ramona Convent hasn't had much luck against Bishop Montgomery recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Knights at 4:15 p.m. Ramona Convent is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
Mark Keppel hit Ramona Convent with a four-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers lost 16-8 to the Aztecs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Tigers have suffered since March 27th.
Citlali Garcia stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Delicia Murillo was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Bishop Montgomery entered their tilt with Mary Star of the Sea on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They never let the Stars get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Bishop Montgomery also got a great performance from Brooke Patterson as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Patterson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Meridian Cordova, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Stinson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.
Bishop Montgomery hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 13 consecutive contests.
Bishop Montgomery's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Ramona Convent, their loss dropped their record down to 16-8.
Ramona Convent's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's match. The Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Bishop Montgomery, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Ramona Convent continue to outrun the ball?
Ramona Convent might still be hurting after the 8-2 defeat they got from Bishop Montgomery when the teams last played back in March. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
