The Strayhorn Mustangs's 16-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Kingsbury 40-37. Strayhorn's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Kingsbury's loss came despite strong showings from Angela Williams and Maleah Ward. Williams scored ten points, while Ward scored ten points. Ward scored a full 27% of Kingsbury's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Camiya Smith, who scored six points.
Strayhorn's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-6. As for Kingsbury, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Strayhorn will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Water Valley at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Kingsbury will be home for the holidays to greet Soulsville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Soulsville is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
