Mountain View was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 337 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Mountain View didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of William Campbell and Mythias Holguin. Campbell got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Marana waltzed into their matchup on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They came out on top against the Badgers by a score of 17-9. The 17-point effort marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Marana found their leader in sophomore Jeffrey Smith III, who rushed for 135 yards and one score on only 12 carries. Smith III's longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Colten Meyer was another key player, having thrown for 251 yards and onetouchdown.
Marana's defense made their presence known, laying out Derek Mesa three times. Justin Elder refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself.
Marana's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Mountain View, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Mountain View has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 215 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Marana, though, as they've been averaging only 91.2 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Mountain View was taken down by Marana 46-13 in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Meyer, who threw for 267 yards and four TDs. Now that the Mountain Lions know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
