5A Pioneer recap Oct. 30, 2012
Fountain-Fort Carson's Anthony Davis rumbled for the longest rushing play in 5A Pioneer this season in his game against Heritage last week. Davis scampered for 90 yards on the play and finished with 285 on the day as his team topped the Eagles.
Fountain-Fort Carson extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Heritage, 33-28. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Legend's dynamic duo of Peyton Remy and Elijah Cherrington proved tough for Castle View to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Remy threw for 290 yards and two touchdowns and Cherrington had 220 yards receiving. Nicholas Winkler helped Legend's passing attack out by catching two balls for 52 yards.
Zach Young was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 297 yards on 17 carries as Doherty fell to the Sabercats. Tristan Marshall also contributed to the rushing game with 73 yards on the ground.
Brendan McGowan made the biggest impact on defense this week as Castle View bested Legend. The 6-foot-3 senior forced one fumble and racked up two sacks.
6-foot-1 quarterback Ryan Hommel of Rock Canyon is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1462. He has also thrown eight touchdowns. On the ground, the Trojans' Davis has rushed for 1424 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Cameron Glon. The Heritage star has 17 catches for 428 yards.
Young of the the Spartans is only 22 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Young has rushed for 978 yards on 179 carries so far this year.
Fountain-Fort Carson and the Eagles played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Fountain-Fort Carson eventually emerging with a 33-28 victory. Davis in the win.
