Basketball Recap: Havelock Victorious

West Carteret came into Friday's match looking for another win against Havelock, but Jaylen Hewitt wouldn't allow it. The Havelock Rams came out on top against the West Carteret Patriots by a score of 72-63 on Friday thanks in part to Hewitt, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.3 blocks per game.

When it comes to explaining why West Carteret lost, don't look at Jay Murray. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Murray a new career-high in boards. Nehemiah Hester was another key player, going 7 of 14 on his way to 16 points and eight rebounds.

Havelock now has a winning record of 4-3. As for West Carteret, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.

Havelock will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on D.H. Conley at 7:30 p.m. on January 3rd. Havelock knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully D.H. Conley likes a good challenge. As for West Carteret, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 56-45 win against New Bern on the 31st.
