Even though The Mt. Diablo Red Devils have not done well against the Berean Christian Eagles recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Mt. Diablo enjoyed a cozy 55-40 win over Berean Christian. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
It was another big night for Herschel Turner Jr, who rushed for 413 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 18.0 yards per carry. Turner Jr really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run. Jakorey Robinson and his 102 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Mt. Diablo's victory.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Mt. Diablo's defensive line and their three sacks. Leading the way was Kaile Leffel and his two sacks.
When it comes to explaining why Berean Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Joshua Werner. Despite the final result, he threw for 485 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per attempt. Werner has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Dane Lowden did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 146 receiving yards.
The win makes it two in a row for Mt. Diablo and bumps their season record up to 8-3. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 18.5 points. As for Berean Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Diablo will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Acalanes at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Acalanes presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mt. Diablo in California (Acalanes is ranked 128th, while Mt. Diablo is ranked 679th). As for Berean Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Willits at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Willits will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
