Grafton (W. Va.) jumped out to an early lead against
Weir (Weirton, W. Va.) and never looked back on the way to a 27-6 victory on Saturday.
The Bearcats put up six points in the opening frame. Grafton scored on a defensive touchdown and a touchdown.
GHS was up 13-0 at the half after taking the lead on a defensive touchdown in the first quarter.
The Bearcats expanded their lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. Grafton's lone score in the quarter came on a touchdown run by
Alex Aichele.
GHS's standout player in the win was Aichele. The junior ran for one touchdown. He has now scored two touchdowns on the season.
The Red Riders' lone touchdown came on a pass in the third quarter.
The Bearcats also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 44-13.
The victory was a step in the right direction for Grafton, which was coming off a 42-14 defeat at the hands of Summers County in its previous game. The victory snapped GHS's 2-game losing streak. The loss was the fourth in a row for Weir.
Grafton (2-2) will play a Big Ten game against Byrd next week, while Weir (0-4) will take on Liberty in a non-conference game.
