The Hughson Huskies had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They managed a 68-64 win over Livingston on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Hughson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but David Delgado led the charge by scoring 17 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Delgado is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for four games straight. Deagan Bell was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Livingston lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Isaac Baez, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Baez pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jayshaan Bains, who scored 17 points along with six assists.
Even though they lost, Livingston smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Hughson's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-12. As for Livingston, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hughson will take on Hilmar at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hilmar is coming into the game with four straight defeats on the road, meaning Hughson will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. As for Livingston, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Ripon Christian at 7:00 p.m. Ripon Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully Livingston likes a good challenge.
