The Gila Ridge Hawks waltzed into their contest on Friday with five straight wins but they left with six. They managed a 51-46 victory over North Canyon.
Gila Ridge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ella Gettings, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 17 rebounds. Bella DeCorse was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Several Rattlers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Trinity King, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points King has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lanaya McCloud, who scored four points along with two steals and two blocks.
Gila Ridge has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. As for North Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.
Gila Ridge will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Sidewinders at 7:00 p.m. San Luis will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while the Hawks are ranked 85th). As for North Canyon, they and the Chargers will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. McClintock will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
