Even though the Andrean Fighting 59ers scored an imposing 58 points on Saturday, the Merrillville Pirates still came out on top. Merrillville snuck past Andrean with a 62-58 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Merrillville.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Merrillville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Preston Saia, who scored 12 points. The game was Saia's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jaeden Williams, who scored 14 points.
Merrillville now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Andrean, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Merrillville will head out on the road to face off against Griffith at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday. Griffith will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 186th, while Merrillville is ranked 46th). Andrean will be home for the holidays to greet Kankakee Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kankakee Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Andrean likes a good challenge.
