On Thursday, the Meade County Green Waves faced the Sacred Heart Valkyries in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Meade County was outmatched by Sacred Heart on the road and fell 81-52. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Meade County in their matchups with Sacred Heart: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Meade County still got an impressive performance from Peyton Bradley, who scored 32 points along with five rebounds. The contest was Bradley's 13th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Rider, who scored two points along with three steals.
It was another big night for ZaKiyah Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 rebounds for Sacred Heart. That makes it five consecutive games in which Johnson has scored at least 25% of Sacred Heart's points. Another player making a difference was Reagan Bender, who scored 18 points.
Meade County has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season. As for Sacred Heart, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
Meade County will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Bardstown at 7:30 p.m. As for Sacred Heart, they will face off against Clarksville Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Clarksville Christian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
