After two games on the road, Mount Olive is heading back home. They will take on The Wayne Valley Indians at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Saturday, Mount Olive got themselves on the board against Morris Knolls, but Morris Knolls never followed suit. They blew past the Golden Eagles 29-0 on the road. The result was nothing new for Mount Olive, who have now won five games by 21 points or more so far this season.
Mount Olive can attribute much of their success to Adam DeCristofaro, who rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries.
Meanwhile, Wayne Valley had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 27-7 margin over Nutley. Given Wayne Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Nutley is ranked 278th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Brian Blake, who rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and also picked up 38 receiving yards. Wayne Valley also got help from Ryan Schmitz who showed off his sure hands for 119 receiving yards.
Mount Olive's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.8 points per game. As for Wayne Valley, their win on Friday bumped their record up to 4-4.
Mount Olive might still be hurting after the 36-15 loss they got from Wayne Valley in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Mount Olive, Danny Smith (who picked up 146 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
