Baseball Recap: Conotton Valley Wins Going Away Against Catholic Central

Conotton Valley hadn't done well against Catholic Central recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Rockets put the hurt on the Crusaders with a sharp 8-0 win. The Rockets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Zack Putnam made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Putnam was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Kam Wright was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Brooks Bower was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Conotton Valley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Catholic Central, they dropped their record down to 2-7 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Conotton Valley and Catholic Central could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Rockets (ranked 452nd) will meet Lake Center Christian (ranked 88th) at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Catholic Central will face off against Oak Glen at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (705 vs. 74).
