Basketball Game Preview: Screven County Gamecocks vs. Emanuel County Institute Bulldogs

The Screven County Gamecocks will take on the Emanuel County Institute Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Screven County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Screven County is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Burke County on Saturday. Screven County fell just short of Burke County by a score of 77-74. The defeat continues a trend for the Gamecocks in their matchups with the Bears: they've now lost seven in a row.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Rodney Beckworth, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 13 points. He is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last four games he's played. LeVez Roper was another key player, putting up 23 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Screven County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Emanuel County Institute was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Savannah and fell 69-17. The matchup marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Screven County's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-8. As for Emanuel County Institute, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.

Screven County was able to grind out a solid victory over Emanuel County Institute in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, winning 73-64. Does Screven County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Emanuel County Institute turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
