Northern Durham is 2-8 against the Wildcats since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Northern Durham Knights will look to defend their home court against the East Chapel Hill Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Northern Durham has now lost 12 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1.
Last Friday, Northern Durham came up short against the Pirates and fell 41-34.
Meanwhile, East Chapel Hill fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Cavaliers on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 43-42 to the Cavaliers. East Chapel Hill has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their loss, East Chapel Hill saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Lauren Steiner, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Zaiah Freeman, who scored eight points along with 15 rebounds.
Northern Durham's defeat was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-12. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.0 points per game. As for East Chapel Hill, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.
Northern Durham was dealt a bruising 59-18 loss at the hands of the Wildcats when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of East Chapel Hill's Abigail Stone, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
