After flying high against the East Rowan Mustangs on Friday, the Central Cabarrus Vikings came back down to earth. Central Cabarrus' tough 50-29 defeat to Cox Mill on Saturday might stick with them for a while. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Central Cabarrus in their matchups with Cox Mill: they've now lost five in a row.
Kyra Lewis and Shelby Cruz certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Lewis scored 10 points along with 3 steals, while Cruz scored 5 points along with 6 rebounds. The contest was Lewis' third in a row with at least ten points.
Central Cabarrus struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Cox Mill racked up 15.
Cox Mill got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lauren Farrell out in front who scored 10 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Another player making a difference was Makayla Richardson, who scored 9 points along with 10 rebounds.
Central Cabarrus' loss dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Cox Mill, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Central Cabarrus will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against South Rowan at 6:00 p.m. South Rowan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 295th, while Central Cabarrus is ranked 136th). As for Cox Mill, they will head out on the road to face off against Kings Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
