On Tuesday, Ferndale was the victim of a rough 42-20 loss at the hands of Sonoma Academy. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Ferndale has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Ferndale saw an underclassman step up: Braedon Rice scored seven points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rice has scored all season.
Ferndale bumped their record down to 2-5 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Sonoma Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
Ferndale will be home for the holidays to greet Fortuna at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fortuna presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Ferndale in California (Fortuna is ranked 198th, while Ferndale is ranked 1206th). Sonoma Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Calistoga at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
