The Village Vikings struggled with assists on Thursday (the Silsbee Tigers had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Village took a serious blow against Silsbee, falling 90-51. Village was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-19.
Despite the loss, Village had strong showings from Shaniya Williams, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and seven steals, and Mila Rossini, who scored 28 points along with six rebounds. Rossini scored a full 54.9% of Village's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Silsbee was led to victory by Jena Warden and Monica Bottley. Warden went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 35 points and 1 assists, while Bottley scored 32 points along with five assists and three steals. The contest was Bottley's 19th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayana Washington, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Village's defeat dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Silsbee, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Village will take on St. Pius X at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. St. Pius X is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road. As for Silsbee, they will be playing at home against Vidor at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vidor is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
