The Northeastern Knights will be home for the holidays to greet the Connersville Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Northeastern will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Northeastern has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 28 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat New Castle 69-34 on the road. Given Northeastern's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while New Castle is ranked 348th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Addisen Mastriano continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds and six blocks. Those six blocks set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Mikesell, who scored 16 points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, Connersville struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Tuesday (Greenfield-Central was 25% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Connersville received a tough blow as they fell 57-38 to Greenfield-Central. Connersville has not had much luck with Greenfield-Central recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Connersville's defeat came about despite a quality game from Hailey Sembach, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ahniyah Bennett, who scored ten points.
Northeastern pushed their record up to 8-3 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Connersville, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's match: Northeastern have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5 threes per game. It's a different story for Connersville, though, as they've been averaging only 5.4 threes per game. Given Northeastern's sizeable advantage in that area, Connersville will need to find a way to close that gap.
