Having just played yesterday, the Gaston Day Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Kings Mountain Mountaineers at 7:30 p.m. on December 28th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard on Thursday.
Gaston Day has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 25 points or more this season. They put the hurt on Ballou with a sharp 81-56 victory on Wednesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Gaston Day's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 119th in North Carolina, while Ballou is ranked ninth in District of Columbia).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gaston Day to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kurt Hunter, who scored 17 points. Chase Owens was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, Kings Mountain earned a 69-61 victory over Palisades on Wednesday.
Gaston Day's victory bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Kings Mountain, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Gaston Day beat Kings Mountain 83-74 in their previous matchup back in December of 2021. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Kings Mountain's Zeke Cannedy, who went 10 for 18 from beyond the arc en route to 55 points and 2 assists. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Gaston Day to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
