The Vero Beach Indians will challenge the Park Vista Cobras at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Vero Beach 1.7, Park Vista 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Vero Beach is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. Everything went their way against Palm Beach Central as they made off with an 8-2 victory. Considering the Indians have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Brandon Walker tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Vero Beach saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sebastian Dimitroff, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs Dimitroff has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Park Vista has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.07 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. They came out on top against Wellington by a score of 14-11. That's two games straight that the Cobras have won by exactly three runs.
Park Vista got a massive performance out of Cooper Ellis, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Anthony Espinoza, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
The win made it two in a row for Vero Beach and bumps their season record up to 26-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Park Vista, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Vero Beach has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Park Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
