Abbie Deeds was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Rylee Black was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Dawson-Bryant kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Portsmouth earned a 7-2 victory over Green on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.
Like Dawson-Bryant, Portsmouth also got a great game from a two-way player: Katie Ankrom. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). Ankrom was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Boren, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bailey Waughtel, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Dawson-Bryant's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Portsmouth, their record is now 7-10.
Portsmouth's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Dawson-Bryant has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Portsmouth, though, as they've been averaging 8.9 hits. Given Dawson-Bryant's sizable advantage in that area, the Trojans will need to find a way to close that gap.
Dawson-Bryant took their win against Portsmouth when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
