West Las Vegas has gone a perfect 10-0 against St. Michael recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Dons are taking a road trip to square off against the Horsemen at 11:00 a.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: West Las Vegas has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while St. Michael's will arrive with seven straight victories.
Last Tuesday, West Las Vegas didn't have quite enough to beat Robertson and fell 2-1.
Meanwhile, St. Michael's hadn't done well against Hope Christian recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Horsemen were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Huskies. Considering the Horsemen have won 15 matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Nadia Cedillo made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Karolina Ruiz was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaslene Ramirez, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
St. Michael's kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.
St. Michael's pushed their record up to 16-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for West Las Vegas, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. West Las Vegas has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Michael's struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went West Las Vegas' way against St. Michael's in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as West Las Vegas made off with a 15-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
