Isaac Sarmiento made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Tiyler Rothstein and Markevious Perry did most of the damage at the plate: Rothstein got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs, while Perry went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Those three hits gave Perry a new career-high. Cornelious Young was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Pahokee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Inlet Grove only posted an OBP of .424.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Parkridge Christian). They put the hurt on Everglades Prep Academy with a sharp 13-1 win on Wednesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Panthers with their most commanding win of the season.
Like Pahokee, Parkridge Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Christian DePalo. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. DePalo was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Warren, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Joshua Ortiz, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Pahokee's victory bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Parkridge Christian, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pahokee has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 12.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Parkridge Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
