5A Special District 3 recap September 24, 2013
Marist's Justin Enseki-Frank rumbled for the longest rushing play in 5A Special District 3 this season in his game against Bend last week. Enseki-Frank ran for 72 yards on the play and finished with 105 on the day as his team beat the Lava Bears.
Ashland added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Churchill, 51-21. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Grizzlies.
Christian Johnson made the biggest impact on defense this week as North Eugene fell to Willamette. The 5-foot-10 senior.
Sam Aguirre provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Wolverines bested the Highlanders. Aguirre's key target this week was Darrius Jackson, who caught 2 passes for 83 yards.
Jackson was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 200 yards on 15 carries as Willamette beat North Eugene. Aguirre also contributed to the rushing game with 203 yards on the ground.
Justin Kearney put up the best numbers in passing as the Lancers lost to Ashland. He had a total of 16 completions for 199 yards. Kearney's favorite target this week was Mike Monroy, who caught 8 passes for 81 yards.
Jackson was the best receiver in 5A Special District 3 this week as Adam Kennybrew's team bested Edmund Rivera's team.
5-foot-10 quarterback Kearney of Churchill is the league leader in passing yards this season with 729. He has also thrown 5 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dustin Jones. The Marist star has 18 catches for 328 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Ashland takes on second place Springfield. Last week, Charlie Hall's team topped Darrell Mehl's team, while Springfield beat Eagle Point.
There should be lots of points scored when the Wolverines and Marist face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Willamette comes in having scored 106 this season, while Frank Geske's team has scored 107. The Wolverines scored 63 points last week as they beat the Highlanders.
The Spartans took down Bend 55-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Brody Cooper threw for 103 yards during the win.
