The Pleasant Valley Vikings will be taking part in a tournament against the Yuba City Honkers at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Pleasant Valley 2.5, Yuba City 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Yuba City will be up against a hot Pleasant Valley squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Pleasant Valley put the hurt on Inderkum with a sharp 8-2 win on Friday.
The team relied heavily on Lily Thurman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Carisma Ta'Amai, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, while Yuba City put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Lassen. Yuba City narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Lassen 2-0. The Honkers haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
The result came thanks to Tori Hernandez's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Yuba City's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Naiema Cawthon, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Pleasant Valley pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Yuba City, they now have a winning record of 3-2-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pleasant Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Yuba City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Pleasant Valley's way against Yuba City in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Pleasant Valley made off with an 8-1 victory. Will Pleasant Valley repeat their success, or does Yuba City have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
