Midview has won three straight games at home, while Elyria has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Middies will welcome the Pioneers at 4:45 p.m. Midview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Midview will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Keystone on Tuesday. The Middies came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 10-7.
Jillian Vandersluis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Vandersluis was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Savannah Presser was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Liv Keenan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Elyria hadn't done well against Steele recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Pioneers never let the Comets get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. The game was the first time the Pioneers have beaten the Comets on their field since May 16, 2019.
Like Midview, Elyria also got a great game from a two-way player: Braylee Beckham. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over eight innings pitched. Beckham has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Beckham wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hannah Quayle, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Midview's win bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Elyria, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Midview hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. However, it's not like Elyria struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Midview got the 'W' in their previous matchup on April 13th against Elyria by a conclusive 15-2 score. Will the Middies repeat their success, or do the Pioneers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
