Baseball Recap: Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian won against Mountain Lake/Comfrey on Monday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Flying Dutchmen blew past the Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Falcons 12-4. Considering the Flying Dutchmen have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Josh Groen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Groen was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and one double while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Levi Van Essen looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Trevin Prins, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Caden Sas, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-5.
