Basketball Recap: Roosevelt Comes Up Short

After flying high against Seattle Prep last Saturday, Roosevelt came back down to earth. The Roosevelt Roughriders came up short against the Mead Panthers on Monday, falling 75-51. The Roughriders were down 62-39 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

When it comes to explaining why Roosevelt lost, don't look at Giselle Dollar. Despite the final result, she went 7 of 15 en route to 18 points and five steals. That's the most points Dollar has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Ellery Burke-Brown, who posted 13 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Roosevelt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive games.

Roosevelt's loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Mead, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roosevelt will host Garfield at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Roosevelt is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.2 points per game this season. As for Mead, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cheney at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cheney has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with six straight defeats, while Mead will come in with five straight wins.
