Holmes County is on a five-game streak of home losses, Poplar Springs a seven-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Having just played yesterday, the Holmes County Blue Devils will get right back to it and host the Poplar Springs Atomics at 6:45 p.m. on January 23rd. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
While Holmes County couldn't quite beat Bethlehem on Monday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 29-point loss they were dealt on Friday. Holmes County fell just short of Bethlehem by a score of 45-43. Holmes County has struggled against Bethlehem recently, as their contest on Monday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Poplar Springs came up short against Rehobeth on Saturday and fell 62-49. While losing is never fun, Poplar Springs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 682nd in Florida, while Rehobeth is ranked 269th in Alabama).
The losing side was boosted by James Gilmore, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Baron Hall, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Holmes County has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season. As for Poplar Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.
Holmes County suffered a grim 74-50 defeat to Poplar Springs when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Holmes County, McCade Hall (who scored 30 points along with six assists and five rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
