Union and Carbon are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Cougars will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Dinos at 3:30 p.m. Union is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
While Union's victory against South Summit wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 2-1 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since March 8th.
Haylee Moynier made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Moynier was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Moynier wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kadyn Kettle, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Union hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Carbon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Emery, falling 9-3.
Union's victory bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Carbon, their loss dropped their record down to 6-13.
Union's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Cougars have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Carbon, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Union continue to outrun the ball?
Union suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Carbon in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
