El Capitan has gone 8-2 against Santana recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Vaqueros will be playing in front of their home fans against the Sultans at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with ten losses in a row, El Capitan turned things around against El Cajon Valley on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Braves by a score of 61-49.
It was another big night for Trevin Curo, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.1 blocks per game. Kale Curo was another key player, putting up seven points and five assists.
El Capitan was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2025.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Santana beat Grossmont 54-50 on Tuesday.
El Capitan better keep an eye on Cruz Guidry. He was instrumental in Santana's win, going 8-for-20 en route to 20 points and three steals. Guidry is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Will Wolchko, who shot 42% from the field on his way to 10 points and eight boards.
Santana's victory bumped their record up to 16-8. As for El Capitan, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 6-18.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: El Capitan has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Santana struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
El Capitan and Santana were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January, but El Capitan came up empty-handed after a 61-60 defeat.
