Softball Recap: Ironwood Wins Going Away Against Independence

The Ironwood Eagles made easy work of the Independence Patriots on Monday and carried off a 22-8 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by nine runs or more this season.

Alyssa Ridgley made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring six runs while going 4-for-5. Those six runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ironwood got a massive performance out of Addison Monahan, who went 3-for-5 with five runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs Monahan has posted since back in March. Madelaine Gober was another key player, scoring five runs and stealing a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.

Ironwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .513. They are 7-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Ironwood and bumps their season record up to 9-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Independence, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-3 record this season.

Ironwood is taking a road trip to challenge Sunrise Mountain at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last. As for Independence, they will host Glendale at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots will need to watch out since the Cardinals have now posted at least ten runs in their last seven games.
