The Auburn Trojans will square off against the Tolono Unity Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Auburn is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They put the hurt on Williamsville with a sharp 10-3 win. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Bullets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Meena Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Addison Wheatley was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Addison Jones, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Auburn lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Tolono Unity entered their tilt with Normal University on Saturday with 13 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 14. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Pioneers.
Tolono Unity also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Lindy Bates gave up only one earned run on five hits. Bates has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sophia Beckett, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-5. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May. The team also got some help courtesy of Shelby Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Auburn's win bumped their record up to 23-5. As for Tolono Unity, their victory bumped their record up to 33-4.
