The Kit Carson Wildcats's game on Friday was all tied up 19-19 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell just short of Eads by a score of 44-42. Kit Carson was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Eads apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Kit Carson's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Johnson, who scored 19 points. Payge Booker-rady was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.
Kit Carson struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Eads was led to victory by Anna Wollert and Lexi Shotton. Wollert dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Shotton dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wollert has scored at least 25% of Eads' points. Another player making a difference was Bailey Sierra, who scored 12 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Kit Carson and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for Eads, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Kit Carson won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Kiowa at 2:00 p.m. on January 6th. Hopefully Kiowa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 back in December of 2023. Eads will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Walsh at 4:00 p.m. on January 6th. Walsh will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 298th, while Eads is ranked 85th).
